Archery Coaching Certification – Basic Practice Test

The first step in the 1-2-3 Release Drill is to count from one to three while drawing the bow. This method emphasizes the importance of timing and rhythm in the shooting process. Counting out loud helps the archer develop a mental sequence that aligns with their physical actions—drawing the bow, anchoring, and releasing.

In this context, counting before the release helps to ensure that each movement is deliberate and controlled, allowing the archer to focus on proper form and technique. By clearly stating "1-2-3," archers can synchronize their breathing and movements, which promotes consistency in their practice sessions.

Additionally, this approach addresses one of the key elements in archery coaching: teaching students to establish a mental framework that assists with the physical execution of their shots. Establishing this mental timing is crucial for improving accuracy and developing a repeatable shooting process.
